Bukit Tabur, also known as Bukit Hangus is a hill located in Taman Melawati, somewhere near the Zoo Negara and is noticeable along the Middle Ring Road 2 (MRR2).
Bukit Tabur is the mid-section and most prominent part of the Klang Gates, shaped like a protruding backbone and is documented as the largest pure crystal quartz.
Bukit Tabur consists of several peaks that can be reached via a few trails; the most popular being Tabur West, followed by Tabur East, Far-East and Tabur Extreme which is the highest peak among them.
The Extreme trail begins somewhere near the Taman Melawati bus depot and mosque (I heard there’s more than one trail but this is where we started). You’d first walk pass a logging trail and a farmland before you hike through some jungle.
The hike up was not that difficult but you have to be absolutely careful where you put your feet as the soil or quartz rock may not be safe to step on.
At every break you make, take the time to look around you and appreciate nature. The Klang Gate Quartz Ridge is under intense development pressure as the foothill sees a lot of housing projects and urban development.
It took us less than 2 hours to reach the peak and the same amount to go down
